A spa is selling an experience. Not just a massage, not just a facial — a feeling. And that feeling starts before anyone lies down on the treatment bed. It starts when they walk through the door and see the space. The lighting. The textures. The way fabric drapes against a wall or frames a window.
Curtain fabric is one of the most underrated elements in spa fit-out design. Most contractors spend hours choosing tiles and fixtures, then grab whatever langsir material is cheapest at the kedai kain down the road. That is a mistake.
The wrong fabric — too stiff, too shiny, wrong colour temperature — can undo thousands of ringgit worth of interior design work. We have seen it happen in spas across KL, from Bangsar to Mont Kiara to the new wellness outlets popping up along Old Klang Road.
Not every curtain material belongs in a wellness centre. Here is what separates spa curtain fabric from standard commercial drapery:
Most suppliers will not tell you this, but the biggest factor in how "calming" a curtain looks has nothing to do with colour. It is the drape. A fabric with good drape falls in soft, natural folds. A stiff fabric bunches awkwardly. For spa applications, you want a fabric that drapes naturally at around 220–260gsm in a polyester-viscose or polyester-linen blend.

Treatment rooms need darkness. Full stop.
Whether it is a facial room, a massage suite, or an acupuncture studio, your clients need to be able to close their eyes without sunlight creeping in around the edges. This means proper blackout curtain fabric — not dim-out, not "room-darkening," but genuine 100% light-block material.
Our blackout range for spa applications comes in 110-inch width (280cm), which covers most treatment room windows in a single drop. No centre seam. This matters because seams let light through, and in a darkened room, even a thin line of light is distracting. The fabric is triple-weave construction at 240gsm — dense enough to block light completely but soft on the front face so it does not look or feel like a hotel blackout liner.
Pricing sits at RM12 to RM18 per metre depending on the specific range and colour. For a typical spa with 6 treatment rooms, you are looking at roughly 80 to 120 metres total — inclusive of fullness allowance. That puts your total fabric cost between RM960 and RM2,160 before making-up charges.
We can also supply a two-layer system: a sheer inner curtain for daytime ambience, paired with a blackout outer curtain for treatment hours. Many premium spas in KLCC and Damansara Heights run this setup. It looks beautiful and functions perfectly.
Steam rooms. Shower areas. Jacuzzi enclosures. Pool-side changing zones. These are the spaces where standard curtain fabric fails within months — mildew, odour, colour fading, structural breakdown.
For wet spa areas, you need 100% polyester fabric with hydrophobic coating. We carry three ranges specifically engineered for high-humidity environments, rated to withstand constant exposure above 80% relative humidity. They can be machine-washed at 40°C and dried flat. Colour fastness rating of Grade 4 to 5 on the ISO 105 scale.
These fabrics come in 54-inch (137cm) and 118-inch (300cm) widths. The narrower width works well for partition curtains between treatment bays, while the wider roll handles floor-to-ceiling installations.
But here is the thing — moisture-resistant does not mean ugly. The newer ranges we brought in last quarter have a soft, linen-look texture despite being fully synthetic. Your guests will not know the difference by looking. They will only notice that the curtains still look fresh six months after installation while competitors' curtains are developing dark spots along the bottom hem.

Weight determines how your curtain hangs. And how it hangs determines the mood of the room.
For spa reception areas and waiting lounges, a lighter fabric around 180–200gsm in a sheer or semi-sheer weave works well. It filters natural light, creates a soft glow, and gives the space an airy feeling. Many wellness centres along Jalan Maarof in Bangsar use floor-to-ceiling sheers in their front-of-house areas — it photographs well and feels welcoming.
Treatment rooms need heavier material. The 240–280gsm range. This weight blocks light, provides acoustic dampening (guests do not want to hear conversations from the next room), and creates that enclosed, cocoon-like atmosphere spa clients expect. A good velvet curtain fabric in deep sage or warm taupe at 260gsm is particularly effective for premium treatment suites.
Corridor dividers and transition curtains fall in between — 200–220gsm. Heavy enough to define separate zones but not so thick that staff struggle to push them aside when moving between areas.
Here is a rough guide based on projects we have supplied over the past two years. A mid-sized day spa — say 6 treatment rooms, a reception area, and a relaxation lounge — typically needs between 100 and 160 metres of fabric total. That breaks down to approximately 60–80 metres of blackout for treatment rooms, 25–40 metres of sheer for reception and lounge areas, and 15–25 metres of moisture-resistant fabric if there is a wet zone.
Budget? For mid-range spa fabric, expect RM8 to RM15 per metre for the material alone. Making-up charges by your tukang jahit or curtain contractor add another RM3 to RM8 per metre depending on complexity. Track systems, brackets, and installation are separate.
And timing matters. Stock runs low before major holidays — especially before Chinese New Year when the mills in Shaoxing shut down for three weeks and container shipping from China ports slows to a crawl. If your spa opening is scheduled for Q1, place your fabric order by early November at the latest. We have seen fit-out timelines blow out by a month because the contractor assumed fabric would always be on the shelf.
For hotel spa wings and resort wellness centres, quantities jump significantly. A 20-room hotel spa project we supplied last year in Langkawi required 340 metres across four colour ways. One more thing contractors overlook: fire rating. Some local authorities require curtain fabric in commercial spa premises to meet BS 5867 Part 2 Type B or equivalent fire retardant standards. Not all fabric meets this. Check with BOMBA or your local council before you order 200 metres of non-FR material and have to rip it all out during inspection. We carry several FR-rated ranges and can advise on compliance — just ask when you enquire.

Ready stock items ship within 3 working days. Custom or indent orders take 4 to 6 weeks depending on the mill schedule. During CNY season (December through February), add another 2 to 3 weeks because Chinese mills close for the holiday period.
