Cotton curtain fabric Malaysia — it's not trendy, not exotic, not the kind of fabric that gets designers excited at trade shows. But it sells. Consistently. Our PJ warehouse moves more cotton drapery fabric than any other single category, and it's been that way for the past nine years running.
The reason is dead simple: cotton works.
It hangs well, takes colour beautifully, and your tukang jahit can sew it on any home machine without special needles or tension adjustments. Try that with a heavy velvet curtain fabric and see how many bobbin jams you get. Cotton forgives mistakes. And in a market where most curtain makers are running small workshops — not factories — that matters more than thread count or weave density.
Most suppliers won't tell you this, but pure 100% cotton curtain material is actually harder to maintain than a good cotton-poly blend. Here's the honest breakdown:
Pure cotton (100%) drapes beautifully and feels premium. Customers love touching it in the sample book. But it shrinks 3-5% on first wash, wrinkles like crazy, and fades faster under direct Malaysian sun. We stock pure cotton at 180-240gsm in roughly 43 colourways. Price runs RM12-22 per metre depending on weight and width. Best suited for lined curtains in shaded rooms — a condo in Mont Kiara with tinted windows, a shophouse in Bangsar with deep overhangs. Anywhere the fabric isn't taking direct UV punishment.
A 65/35 cotton-poly blend? Different animal. Shrinkage drops below 1.5%. Colour fastness improves from grade 3-4 to grade 5-6 on the ISO 105 scale. It still feels like cotton — your customer won't notice the difference once it's hung. And the price sits at RM8-15 per metre. That's where the volume is.
We also carry 80/20 cotton-polyester blends for customers who want that extra cotton feel but can't afford pure cotton's maintenance issues. Good middle ground for hotel refurbishment projects where housekeeping will machine-wash the curtains every few months.

Weight ranges from 150gsm (sheer-ish, lets light filter through for a soft glow) up to 280gsm (heavy enough to substitute as a basic privacy curtain without lining). Most of our cotton drapery fabric sits in the 180-220gsm sweet spot — heavy enough to drape properly, light enough not to stress standard curtain tracks.
And speaking of tracks: if your customer insists on 280gsm cotton on a lightweight aluminium track, talk them out of it. The fabric weight plus fullness will bend cheap tracks within six months. We've seen it happen at a hotel project near KLCC — they had to re-do all 312 rooms because someone specced heavy cotton on budget hardware.
Cotton's natural fibre structure allows air circulation — critical in Malaysian homes where humidity sits above 70% most of the year. Less mildew risk than synthetics in poorly ventilated rooms.

Not every room needs cotton. But some rooms are basically made for it.
Casual living rooms in landed homes. Especially those double-storey terraces in Subang Jaya, USJ, and Puchong where the living room gets afternoon shade from the upper floor. Cotton drapes soften the space without making it feel heavy. Pair a 200gsm cotton in warm ivory with a simple rod pocket heading — done. Clean, fuss-free, and the homeowner can throw it in the washing machine every Raya without a dry cleaning bill.
Children's bedrooms. Here's where natural cotton curtains really shine. Parents worry about synthetic fabrics off-gassing near sleeping kids. Cotton is hypoallergenic, doesn't carry static (so less dust attraction), and the printed cotton ranges — we have roughly 23 children's prints in stock — add colour without needing wall decals or paint. But pair it with a blackout lining if the child needs a dark room for afternoon naps. Cotton alone won't block enough light.
Boutique hotels and Airbnbs. We've supplied cotton drapery fabric to at least 14 boutique hotels and serviced apartments in KL and Penang over the past three years. The appeal? Cotton looks expensive without the price tag of linen curtain fabric. A guest touching cotton curtains feels quality. The housekeeping team can machine-wash them. And replacement cost is low enough that you can swap out stained panels without blowing your FF&E budget.
West-facing windows. Full stop.
If the window catches direct afternoon sun — especially above floor 15 where there's no building shadow — pure cotton will visibly fade within 12-18 months. The reds and dark blues go first. We've had kedai kain owners call us to complain about fading, and almost every time it's a west-facing installation without UV lining.
For these situations, either use a cotton-poly blend with UV-stabilised fibres, or add a separate blackout curtain fabric lining behind the cotton. The lining takes all the UV damage and costs RM4-6 per metre. Much cheaper than replacing the face fabric every year.
Another weak spot: bathrooms and wet areas. Cotton absorbs moisture — that's great for comfort, terrible for mould. Stick to polyester or use a cotton-poly blend with anti-microbial treatment for any room where humidity regularly exceeds 85%. We can recommend specific SKUs if you tell us the application.
Stock availability changes. That's the reality of the fabric trade. We maintain buffer stock on our top 60 selling colours, but anything outside that can have a 3-5 week lead time if we need to reorder from the mill. During peak seasons — before Hari Raya, before CNY, before year-end developer handovers — lead times stretch to 6-8 weeks because every pembekal in the country is ordering simultaneously.
Our advice: if you have a project with a fixed completion date, order at least 8 weeks ahead. Don't wait for the ID to finalise colour selections. Get the fabric booked first, sort the shade later. We allow one colour swap per order up to two weeks before shipping.

Self-collect from PJ is the fastest. Drive down Jalan Klang Lama, we're just past the Taman Desaria traffic lights on the left. Parking in front of the warehouse.
For delivery within Klang Valley, we use our own lorry — free delivery for orders above RM1,500 nett. Outstation delivery via freight forwarder, cost depends on weight and destination. Sabah and Sarawak shipments take 5-7 working days.
Container delays from China ports have been less of an issue since mid-2025, but we still keep 20-30% extra buffer on popular SKUs just in case. Nobody wants to tell a client their curtains are stuck at Port Klang.
Yes — pure cotton typically shrinks 3-5% after the first wash. We recommend ordering about 7% extra length to account for shrinkage plus hem allowance. Pre-washed cotton and cotton-poly blends (65/35 or 80/20) reduce shrinkage to under 1.5%. Our warehouse team can advise on the best match for your project requirements.
MOQ is 50 metres per colourway for wholesale rates. For ready-stock colours, we can do smaller cuts starting from RM12 per metre at retail pricing. Walk-in customers at our Taman Desaria warehouse can purchase from 1 metre upward — just note there's a RM3 cutting charge for orders under 10 metres.
Cotton is actually excellent for tropical climates because it breathes and absorbs humidity naturally. The main concern is UV fading on sun-exposed windows — especially west-facing. For those situations, use a cotton-poly blend with UV-stabilised fibres or add a blackout lining behind the cotton face fabric. For shaded or east-facing rooms, pure cotton works beautifully and outlasts most synthetics in feel.
Three standard widths: 54-inch (137cm) for upholstery crossover, 110-inch (280cm) which is our bestseller for standard condo windows, and 118-inch (300cm) for floor-to-ceiling installations in landed homes. The wider rolls allow railroading so you avoid vertical seams across the curtain panel.
Cotton is softer, more affordable, and easier to care for. Linen has that textured, relaxed drape — cotton falls smoother and more uniformly. Cotton also takes printed designs better, so patterns look crisper. For a structured pleat, cotton is your material. For a loose, casual puddle, linen wins. We stock both — grab a sample book and see the difference side by side.
Not from cotton alone — even heavy 280gsm cotton still lets light through. But we carry cotton-face fabrics bonded with foam or acrylic blackout backing. You get the natural cotton appearance on the room side with full light-blocking performance on the window side. These are popular for hotel rooms, media rooms, and children's bedrooms where total darkness is needed.
