Composition and construction
The spec sheet states fibre content — 100% polyester, poly-linen blend, or whatever the actual makeup is. It also lists the weave type: plain, twill, jacquard, triple-weave blackout. This matters because the tender document will specify fibre type, and if your submission says "kain langsir" without a composition breakdown, it gets rejected.
Weight gets stated in gsm. A typical blackout curtain fabric runs 240gsm to 320gsm. Sheers sit around 45gsm to 90gsm. Velvet can hit 380gsm or more. Fire rating and safety certificates
This is the part most suppliers skip. And it is the part that kills tender submissions.
Hotels, hospitals, government buildings, and commercial spaces in Malaysia typically require curtain fabrics tested to BS 5867 Part 2 Type B or NFPA 701. Some projects reference MS 1747 or local BOMBA requirements. The specification sheet must state which standard the fabric was tested against, provide the test certificate number, and often include a copy of the actual lab report.
Most suppliers won't tell you this, but not every curtain fabric in their showroom carries fire-retardant certification. The sample book looks great, the price is right, and then your ID firm gets stuck three weeks before tender closing because there is no FR cert for the fabric they specified. Colourfastness and durability data
Colourfastness to light matters in Malaysia. Our equatorial sun does not forgive. A curtain fabric facing west in a Bangsar shophouse gets hammered with afternoon UV daily.
