Supplying Curtain Fabric Across Kedah Since 2003

Artwork Fabrics has been shipping curtain material to Kedah for over two decades. We started with a handful of tukang jahit in Alor Setar who needed consistent access to quality fabric without driving down to KL every month. That number has grown. Today we supply curtain makers, interior contractors, and resort project teams across the entire state — from the paddy-field towns inland to the resort strips on Langkawi.

Our warehouse sits on Jalan Klang Lama in Taman Desaria, Petaling Jaya. Not in Kedah, obviously. But here's the thing most suppliers won't tell you: location matters less than logistics. A pembekal with 1,800 fabrics ready stock in PJ who ships next-day is more useful than a kedai kain in Sungai Petani stocking 47 rolls.

We courier to Kedah three to four working days, standard. Alor Setar, Sungai Petani, Kulim, Jitra — all reachable within that window. Langkawi takes an extra day or two because of the ferry freight from Kuala Perlis, but we've streamlined that route over the years.

What Kedah Curtain Makers Order Most

Kedah projects skew residential and hospitality. Different from KL projects where you get a lot of commercial office work. Here's what moves:

  • Linen and linen-blend sheers — popular for landed homes in Alor Setar's newer townships. The 118-inch width covers most standard windows without seaming, and customers up north prefer the natural drape over synthetic alternatives.
  • Blackout fabric in 280gsm and above — resort projects on Langkawi demand this. Guests want pitch-dark rooms. The 3-pass coated blackout we stock handles humidity without peeling, which matters for island installations.
  • Mid-weight velvet at 320gsm — less common up north than in KL condos, but Langkawi's boutique hotels have been ordering more of this. The thermal weight helps with air-conditioning efficiency.
  • Dim-out sheers — the compromise fabric. Filters about 70% of light while keeping rooms bright enough during the day. Tukang jahit in Sungai Petani tell us their clients want this for living rooms specifically.

We carry roughly 287 colours across our wholesale curtain fabric range. Not a rounded number because we keep adding and dropping shades based on what actually sells.

Langkawi Resort Projects — Our Specialty

Langkawi is its own animal. The island's duty-free status affects some import dynamics, but curtain fabric sourced domestically — like ours — ships in without complications. No duty paperwork. Just normal freight charges.

We've supplied fabric to resort refurbishment projects in Pantai Cenang, Tanjung Rhu, and Datai Bay. These aren't small jobs. A mid-sized boutique resort with 43 rooms can easily pull 600 to 900 metres of curtain fabric across blackout, sheer, and decorative layers. Our MOQ of 50 metres per design makes it practical to mix fabrics without overcommitting on any single pattern.

And the climate factor is real. Langkawi's salt air and humidity will destroy cheap fabric within 18 months. We recommend fabrics with colour fastness grade 4 or above and mildew-resistant backing for any island project. Our sales team can shortlist the right specifications — just tell us the property type and window count.

Most resort project managers want samples before committing to 800 metres of anything. Fair enough. We send sample books via courier to your Langkawi site at no charge. Or if you're passing through KL, walk into our Jalan Klang Lama showroom and pull samples yourself. Easier to judge drape and texture in person.

Delivery Logistics to Northern Peninsular Malaysia

Kedah sits at the top of Peninsular Malaysia. Getting fabric there efficiently matters.

We use a mix of J&T, Poslaju, and dedicated freight runners depending on order size. Small orders under 30 metres go by standard courier — RM12-18 per parcel, 3-4 working days. Larger rolls above 50 metres ship via freight, which is actually cheaper per metre and arrives in the same timeframe.

For Langkawi specifically, we freight to Kuala Perlis and arrange ferry transfer. Bulk orders over 200 metres get free delivery to the ferry terminal. The ferry crossing adds roughly a day, and our logistics contact on the island handles last-mile to your site.

One thing to flag: lead times stretch during festive seasons. Before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, our Kedah orders triple — everyone wants new curtains. Stock runs low on popular colours. If you have a project timeline, place orders at least three weeks before any major holiday. And during Chinese New Year, our Chinese-mill fabrics face container delays from Guangzhou and Shaoxing ports. Plan around that.

Trade Pricing for Kedah-Based Curtain Makers

Our trade pricing sits between RM8 and RM15 per metre for most curtain fabrics. That's the per-metre rate at 50-metre MOQ. Sheers start lower, around RM6-8 per metre. Premium velvet and heavy blackout sit at the upper end, RM13-22 depending on weight and finish.

No cutting charge for full rolls. If you need a partial roll — say 37 metres from a 50-metre bolt — there's a small cutting fee of RM5 per cut. Not per metre, per cut. Reasonable.

We don't publish prices online because rates shift with raw material costs and exchange rates. But WhatsApp us a fabric code and quantity, and you'll get a quote within the hour during business hours. Usually faster.

Serving Alor Setar, Sungai Petani, and Kulim

Each town in Kedah has its own character when it comes to curtain projects.

Alor Setar — the state capital drives most of our Kedah orders. New housing developments along Jalan Langgar and the Anak Bukit area keep tukang langsir busy. Residential curtain jobs here typically use 54-inch fabric for standard windows, with 110-inch widths for sliding doors.

Sungai Petani — Kedah's commercial hub. We supply several curtain shops along Jalan Ibrahim and the Taman Petani Jaya area. SP has a growing condo market, and developers are specifying curtain packages more often now. If you're bidding on a developer contract, we offer project pricing below standard trade rates.

Kulim — sits close to the Penang border. Some curtain makers here actually serve both Kedah and Penang clients. Our PJ showroom ships to Kulim just as easily as anywhere else in Kedah. The Hi-Tech Park industrial area has also generated some commercial curtain work — office blinds and partition curtains for factory offices.

But regardless of which town you operate from, the process is the same. Request a sample book. Pick your fabrics. WhatsApp the codes and quantities. We quote, you confirm, we ship.
