Your brand specifies Pantone 19-4052 TCX. Your architect's render shows a specific grey-blue dimout. The ID consultant insists on an exact RAL match. We dye it. From our base in Petaling Jaya, Artwork Fabrics runs custom colour curtain fabric for hotels, developers, and corporate projects across Malaysia.
Most kedai kain along the Jalan Ipoh fabric district or even the bigger pembekal in Kepong carry maybe 23 to 38 shades of any given curtain material. That sounds like enough β until your client hands over a brand manual with a specific Pantone swatch and says "match this exactly."
Hotel chains are the worst for this. And we mean that affectionately.
A five-star property in KLCC won't accept "close enough." Neither will a corporate HQ fit-out in KL Sentral where the curtain fabric needs to sit beside wall vinyl, carpet tiles, and upholstery β all pulled from the same colour palette. A Delta E of 3.0 shows. Your client's ID consultant will reject it, and you'll eat the cost of re-ordering.
This is exactly what our custom colour curtain fabric service exists to solve. We take your Pantone reference, RAL code, or even a worn physical sample, and we produce a dye-matched fabric at our partnered mills. Not a rough approximation β a lab-dip-approved, spectrophotometer-verified match.
Most suppliers won't tell you this, but the majority of "custom colour" services you see advertised are actually just selecting from an extended mill catalogue of 80-odd shades. That's not true custom dyeing. True custom means the mill formulates a dye bath specifically for your order. That's what we do.
We've simplified the workflow down to five stages. The whole thing β from your first WhatsApp message to fabric delivery at your site β typically runs 35 to 55 working days. Here's the breakdown.
Send us a Pantone TPX/TCX code, RAL classic number, or a physical swatch. Digital photos from phones don't work β screen calibration makes them unreliable. If you only have a photo, come by our showroom at Lot 1509, Jalan Klang Lama, and we'll match it against our Pantone fan deck. Physical samples should be at least 5cm x 5cm, preferably on the same fibre type as your target fabric.
The mill produces a small test sample β usually three strike-offs at slightly different concentrations. Lab dip turnaround is 7 to 12 working days. You'll receive physical swatches by courier (Peninsular Malaysia) or we can arrange collection at our PJ showroom. Lab dip fee: RM150βRM350 depending on fabric base.
Compare the lab dip against your original reference under D65 daylight and TL84 store lighting. If the shade's off, we re-run. Up to 3 strike-offs per lab dip are included. Rejections beyond that incur an additional RM80 per re-dip.
Once approved, the mill schedules your run. Production takes 25 to 40 working days depending on the base fabric, quantity, and current mill loading. During pre-CNY rush (November through January), add 10 to 15 days buffer. Stock runs low before Raya too β plan accordingly.
We inspect every roll against the approved lab dip before shipping. Colour fastness testing to ISO 105-B02 (lightfastness grade 5+) is standard. Delivery within Klang Valley is free for orders above 500 metres. Outstation shipping via freight forwarder.
Let's talk numbers. Every tukang jahit and curtain contractor wants to know the same thing: berapa minimum, berapa harga.
Pricing for custom-dyed curtain fabric depends heavily on the base material. A polyester dimout at 180gsm is much cheaper to dye than a linen-blend at 260gsm. And velvet β proper crushed velvet at 320gsm β costs more again because the pile absorbs more dye per metre.
| Base Fabric | Width | MOQ | Price Range (per metre) | Lead Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Polyester Dimout | 280cm | 300m | RM8βRM13 | 30β38 days |
| Polyester Blackout (3-pass) | 280cm | 300m | RM11βRM16 | 32β40 days |
| Sheer Voile | 300cm | 150m | RM5βRM9 | 25β32 days |
| Linen-Poly Blend | 300cm | 300m | RM14βRM22 | 35β45 days |
| Velvet (crushed/plain) | 280cm | 500m | RM18βRM28 | 38β50 days |
| 100% Linen | 310cm | 500m | RM22βRM35 | 40β55 days |
All prices exclude lab dip fees and are FOB our warehouse on Jalan Klang Lama. Cutting charge of RM0.50 per metre applies if you need custom roll lengths shorter than 50m. For bulk orders above 1,000 metres on a single colourway, we can negotiate the per-metre rate down by 8β12%.
And here's something worth knowing: container delays from Chinese ports can push timelines. If you're working on a project with a hard handover date, order early. We've seen Yantian port delays stretch delivery by 18 days during peak season. We now also source from mills in Turkey and India for certain base fabrics β their shipping is often faster into Port Klang.
Three types of clients come through our doors for this service.
Hotel chains and hospitality groups. International brands β your Marriotts, Hiltons, Accor properties β all operate under strict FF&E specifications. The curtain fabric must match the brand palette down to the Pantone code. We've supplied custom-dyed blackout fabric for hotel refurbishments in Penang, JB, and KL. A typical hotel room package runs about 12 metres of curtain per room, so a 200-room property hits 2,400 metres easy.
Property developers. Condo projects in Mont Kiara, serviced apartments in Bangsar South, high-rise towers along the DUKE highway β developers who include curtains in their developer packages need consistent colour across 300, 500, sometimes 800+ units. You can't rely on ready stock for that volume because dye lots will shift between batches. Custom dyeing one large run guarantees uniformity.
Corporate fit-outs and GLC offices. Government-linked companies and MNCs with brand guidelines. Think Petronas green, Maybank yellow-and-tiger-stripe tones, or the specific navy used in bank branch interiors. The procurement team will reject anything that doesn't match the approved swatch.
Six reasons our contractors and developers keep coming back.
Every lab dip is measured with a Datacolor instrument. We report Delta E values β not guesswork. Target is below 1.0 for solid dyes.
We work directly with 4 partner mills. No middlemen inflating your cost. Polyester dimout starts at RM8 per metre for custom runs.
Fast turnaround on test swatches. Three strike-offs included per lab dip so you can evaluate under different lighting conditions.
Custom colour available on 280cm, 300cm, and 310cm widths. No seaming needed for standard ceiling heights up to 3.5m.
Lightfastness ISO 105-B02 grade 5+, colour fastness to washing grade 4+. Fire retardant treatment available on request (BS 5867 Part 2).
Orders above 500 metres get free delivery within the Klang Valley. Outstation shipping arranged at cost to Penang, JB, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching.
Our standard MOQ for custom-dyed curtain fabric is 300 metres per colourway. For certain base fabrics like sheer voile or basic polyester, the MOQ can go as low as 150 metres. We recommend discussing your project volume with our team to find the most cost-effective option.
Lab dip samples typically take 7β12 working days from when we receive your colour reference. Once you approve the lab dip, production runs take 25β40 working days depending on fabric type, quantity, and mill capacity. During peak seasons like pre-CNY or pre-Raya, add an extra 10β15 days buffer.
Yes, we accept physical samples for colour matching. Drop off or post a swatch (minimum 5cm x 5cm) to our showroom on Jalan Klang Lama. Our team will analyse it using a spectrophotometer and provide the closest Pantone equivalent before proceeding with a lab dip.
We typically achieve a Delta E of 1.0 or below on solid-dye fabrics, which is within commercial acceptability. Textured fabrics like linen blends or velvet may show slight visual variation due to fibre structure, even at the same dye formula. We always send a lab dip for your sign-off before bulk production.
We offer custom colour matching on polyester, polyester-linen blends, full blackout, dimout, sheer voile, and velvet base fabrics. Pure natural fibres like 100% linen or cotton have more dye-lot variation and may require a wider tolerance. Each base fabric has different MOQs and pricing β ask our team for the specific base you need.
Yes, we charge RM150βRM350 per lab dip depending on the base fabric. This covers the cost of dyeing test samples at the mill. If you proceed with a bulk order, the lab dip fee is typically offset against your first order. Up to 3 strike-offs per lab dip are included before additional charges apply.
