Jacquard is a weaving method, not a fabric type. That distinction matters. The pattern you see on a jacquard curtain isn't printed onto the surface — it's built into the cloth itself, thread by thread, on a programmable loom originally invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard back in 1804. Every warp and weft intersection is individually controlled.
The practical result? Patterns that won't wash out, won't peel, and won't fade the way screen-printed or digitally-printed designs do after 18 to 24 months of sun exposure. We've had walk-in customers at our PJ showroom bring in printed curtain fabric that's barely two years old, already looking washed out on the south-facing window. Jacquard weave simply doesn't have that problem.
Most suppliers won't tell you this, but the cost difference between mid-range jacquard and premium digital print is actually smaller than people assume. A solid polyester jacquard starts at roughly RM8 per metre. A decent reactive-print fabric? RM6-7 per metre. That extra RM1-2 buys you pattern durability that lasts the full lifespan of the curtain.

Damask is the classic — symmetrical, ornate, with a subtle sheen where the satin-weave sections catch light against the matte ground. Floral jacquards are popular for residential projects. Landed homes in Kota Damansara, semi-Ds in Setia Alam. The patterns tend to be larger scale, sometimes covering a full 60cm repeat. And they pair surprisingly well with linen curtain fabric as a sheer underlayer.
Then there's geometric. Clean lines, modern feel. We've seen a definite uptick in geometric jacquard orders since 2023 — driven largely by the new-build condo market where ID firms want something textured but not fussy. A subtle diamond or chevron jacquard at 240gsm weight gives you structure and visual interest without competing with the furniture.
Fabric specs aren't just numbers on a tag. They determine how a curtain drapes, how long it lasts, and whether your tukang jahit will curse you during fabrication.
Width: Our jacquard curtain fabrics come in 280cm and 300cm widths as standard — that's your 110" and 118" options. Some heavier damask weaves only come in 140cm (54") width, which means you'll need to railroad the fabric. Check this before you calculate yardage. Getting it wrong is an expensive mistake.
Weight: Ranges from 180gsm for lighter geometric jacquards up to 320gsm for dense damask patterns. Anything above 260gsm will hold a structured pleat without additional lining. Below that, you'll want interlining or at minimum a cotton sateen lining to give the curtain body.
Composition: Roughly 70% of our jacquard range is 100% polyester — practical, washable, doesn't shrink. The remaining 30% includes poly-viscose blends, poly-cotton, and a small collection of silk-blend jacquards at the top end. The silk blends sit around RM28-38 per metre and are typically reserved for hotel lobby installations and high-end residential projects.
Colour fastness: We test to ISO 105-B02 standard. Our mill-direct jacquards typically score Grade 4-5 on lightfastness, which means minimal fading over 3-5 years of normal exposure. For west-facing windows in Malaysian apartments — where afternoon sun is brutal — Grade 5 is what you want.

Pricing tiers: Retail walk-in rate for jacquard curtain fabric sits between RM12 and RM38 per metre. Wholesale kicks in at 50 metres per colourway, bringing prices down by 15-25%. For project orders above 200 metres — say, an entire condo block or a boutique hotel — we quote per project. The bigger the order, the sharper the rate. Simple.
But here's something most pembekal won't mention upfront: lead time on restocks. Our ready stock covers the majority of popular patterns and colourways. If you pick something from a sample book that's currently out of stock, the reorder from our Shaoxing mill takes 35-45 working days — and that's under normal conditions. During Chinese New Year shutdown, add another 15-20 days. Stock also runs low before Raya season when every tukang langsir in the Klang Valley is rushing to finish jobs. Plan accordingly.
Jacquard weave curtain fabric occupies a specific niche. It's not trying to be velvet — which gives you that heavy, luxe texture but at a higher price point and with dust-magnet tendencies. And it's not linen, which is beautiful for casual, airy interiors but lacks the formality that damask curtain fabric brings to a space.
What jacquard does best is deliver pattern with substance. The woven texture adds depth that flat fabrics simply cannot replicate. Run your hand across a good damask jacquard and you'll feel the raised pattern — that tactile quality is what separates a RM15 jacquard from a RM7 print.

Jacquard fabric alone is not blackout — it's a weaving technique, not a light-blocking treatment. However, many of our heavier jacquard fabrics in the 240-320gsm range block a significant amount of light on their own. For full blackout, we recommend pairing jacquard curtains with a separate blackout lining. This preserves the decorative face of the jacquard while achieving total darkness.
Our minimum order quantity for wholesale jacquard curtain fabric is 50 metres per colour per design. For mixed orders across different designs, the total should reach at least 100 metres to qualify for wholesale pricing. Walk-in customers buying smaller quantities pay retail rates, and there's no minimum for walk-in purchases — even 1 metre is fine.
